INSIDE THE LINES BIRTHDAY

One of my passions is colouring in.  I have about four Adult Colouring books at home and another at my Mum's for when I go visit her!  One of the new Sale-a-bration (SAB) products that will be available to earn FREE (with a $110 NZD Order) from January 4th, is a pack of Designer Paper called "Inside the Lines".  You get 12 sheets, 3 each of four designs, and a little goes a long way!  You can use a variety of different colouring products on this lovely paper, but I wanted to see how it would stand up to water colour.

As you can see by my finished card, it stood up very well to water.  I used an Aqua Painter to colour, picking up ink from my ink pad lids and using a colour wash to fill in the main images.  Once dry, I went back in with more colour to add dimension and shading.  The DSP did warp, but not as much as I thought it would.  Once it was completely dry, I applied fast fuse generously to the back and adhered it to a Thick Whisper White card.  This helped helped to flatten the paper and keep it that way.  I then trimmed the image panel to the size I wanted for my card front.

I have seen vellum banners used on cards and never tried one myself.  I love how this turned out.  I did use Staz On to stamp and it probably would look better in Black embossing, but hey, live and learn, right?  I adore that you can see through it so nothing of the artwork is hidden, just muted.

HANG IN THERE GDP065

At Global Design Project this week we have Guest Deigner - Holly Stene joining us, which means it must be a colour challenge!  Holly's work is out of this world and I am delighted to be working with her on the 2017 Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team next year.

I was automatically drawn to this colour combination.  I adore the Neutrals colour family and red is a favourite colour of mine, one I wear quite often as it goes beautifully with black, the other colour I wear quite often, lol.

I have finally broken into new product from the upcoming Occasions Catalogue.  As a demonstrator I get to order these wonderful new items a full month in advance of the catalogue release.  You can too when you join the Stampin' Up family, hopefully on my team (if you live in New Zealand), the Paper Diva's.  Who doesn't like to get new product ahead of everyone else, right?!

This beautiful stamp set is called Mediterranean Moments and in my opinion, was just made for water colouring!  It has four beautifully illustrated scenes to choose from.

I have actually cased one of my most pinned cards for this challenge.  You can see the original HERE.
The banner became my sentiment and I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Circles dies to frame my artwork.

I finished the card with a Linen Thread bow and Real Red Enamel Dots keeping it simple so I didn't overwhelm the artwork.  For once, this was a colour challenge I actually enjoyed from start to finish.  No struggles with this one!  Love it when a plan comes together!

I can't wait to see what you come up with this week too!  You might just be selected as our Guest Designer for the next colour challenge if you enter!  Good luck and see you at Global Design Project!

CASE THE DESIGNER AT GDP064 - CONNIE COLLINS

It's time to CASE the Designer at Global Design Project.  This week, we are CASEing one of my personal favourite designers, Connie Collins.  I first came across Connie's work a few years back when she was first on the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design team.  She is also on the current team and her designs always take my breath away.

It's not without a little awe (and nerves) that I get to CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) another of her beautiful designs.  When I "case", I take elements of the original design that have caught my attention.  It can be anything.  I have a good look at the original project, write down things about it that I love, then close the photo down, not to be looked at again.  Otherwise I am too tempted to copy exactly.  Why change perfection, lol.

This is actually my second attempt, btw.  I was going to use Jar of Love and flowers, but I just wasn't feeling the love and had no clear direction in mind.  After taking another hunt through my stash, I decided on Paisleys and Posies stamp, my most used stamp set from the Holiday catalogue.  The good news is that it is carrying over after that catalogue finishes - woop!

I used blues and yellows, like Connie, for my card and all the the little circle elements from the stamp set.  I think they look a little like fireworks going off!  I kept the embellishments to a minimum, using only Black and Gold Bakers Twine and the Metallics Enamel Dots to add just a touch of bling.

I hope Connie likes the card I have come up with using her original design for inspiration.  She has inspired me in many ways over the time I have known her and it is because of her that I had the courage to apply for the Artisan Design Team myself.  I was extremely honored when I was offered this position for 2017,  I look forward to bringing you yet more posts on this blog!
